Adventures in Housing Fury found a house. It's close, it's cheaper than living on campus, and she invited me to take one of the six bedrooms. I jumped at the opportunity. I scrapped my application to the Co-Op because it required a commitment and told Fury to count me in. I'm not even sure why I'm so excited about the prospect of living off campus. Maybe it's because it feels like a real adult life in the real world, maybe I like the thought of living communally with a bunch of friends (Fury's also invited Kara and Miriam, who I think may turn out to be difficult to live with, but in a house of six, it shouldn't be the end of the world). I'm certainly pleased at the prospect of doing my own cooking. Fury said she liked the idea of being able to knock on someone's door and get a hug. I quite agree. Six sophomores in one house. Eek. But in a good way. The thing is, I didn't think. I didn't take time to ponder, mull the positives and negatives, wonder if it'd be a pain in the ass to walk everyday, if I can still capably ride a bike, didn't take time to be nervous about how I'd get along with people. I just jumped at the opportunity. Can't even say why. And then I was thinking maybe not, maybe it wasn't such a good idea—but it's an adventure. An experiment. And a very exciting one. Now it had better work out. |
